IN THE BEGINNING
I have been interested in natural health and nutrition for most of my adult life. My eating habits have swung the pendulum from one extreme to the other. I have eaten the “S.A.D” Standard American Diet, been a vegetarian, eaten organic produce, avoided dairy, and like the Little Red Hen, ground my own wheat and made my own bread. My life experiences, dramas and traumas, helped usher me into the “World of Raw Plant-Based Food.”
Although I’ve always had a love for food, it wasn’t always healthy food. My oldest daughter had a daily struggle with chronic illnesses, and food allergies, the first few years of her life. It was during this time, I started researching, studying and finding out about nutrition and healthy food. A change in diet helped reverse and cure most of her ailments, which only increased my passion for natural health and healthy eating.
Years later, when my love for food, and my passion for natural health met in the form of a raw food lifestyle – I knew I had found my calling and purpose!
For many years, I walked through several major life events, and it seemed that each one brought new stressors into my life. I wasn’t aware of the effect the stress was having on my body and spirit, and even if I had been aware, I wouldn’t have known what to do about it.
Living with many health issues, including: chronic insomnia, chronic sinus infections, depression, anxiety issues, migraines, elevated glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure as well as injures from a car accident that wouldn’t heal, and an immune system that just wasn’t functioning correctly anymore, had become a way of life.
“I was desperate.” I wanted to feel better – to feel normal. A good friend introduced me to a raw food lifestyle, and I spent the last 3 weeks of March, 2010, at Optimum Health Institute, in San Diego, eating raw detox food, which consisted of fruits, vegetables, sprouts, fermented foods and juice. Within the first two days, I started noticing remarkable improvement in the areas where I had “health opportunities.” Within the first two to four weeks, the majority of my health issues had been resolved.
In 21 weeks, I lost 46 pounds, more than 18 inches, 12% body fat and have dropped 4 sizes. I was off all medication, no longer had insomnia, indigestion or anxiety issues. My resting heart rate went from 92 to 58 and my blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure were once again in the normal range.
My journey in the Raw Food World has been filled with excitement, anticipation, life, joy, happiness, healing, weight loss, new career opportunities, and new friends. I found my “Happy,” forgave myself, learned to love “me” and my life. For the first time in 49 years, I was comfortable in my own skin.
My desire is to help others find the emotional and physical healing, happiness and health that I have found by living a Raw Food / Plant-Based Lifestyle. It’s about living in the present, not living in regret or remorse about yesterday, or last year. It’s about fueling our bodies with nutrient rich foods so they can function the way God designed them to – in harmony and balance with God, nature, good nutrition, exercise and a positive attitude. It’s about making a better choice today, so tomorrow can be your best, so you can live in optimum health!
